Refreshing the display when scrolling

I had a n older version of XP on the pc when I bought it. I purchased it from
a friend and he put the original version on the system and never had to
activate it. I did not know the product key nor could I activat it so I could
get SP2. So I bought a new Version of XP and went through all of the upgrades
and installations. Ever since then, whenever I scroll on Internet explorer or
anything else ther is a flickering in the process. It is not a smooth scroll.
It is almost as if there is a slow refresh time on the monitor but the only
setting for it is the default settings. This all started after installing a
new version of XP Does anyone have a clue what it is or any advice?

try checking your video drivers, you maybe running default Microsoft
drivers. if this is the case you'll want to go to the video card
manufacturers site or to www.driverguide.com and get the actual drivers for
your video card.

My screen will do the same as you have decribed , like jerk while I scroll
down a web page .
I am living in an old house and the electricity circuit board is out of
date and has been recommended for an up grade and my harddrive often clicks
and having looked at possible causes for the noise I have found the harddrive
does not get enough power to process data and so something inside which moves
up and down while it is looking for data moves faster and begins to make a
noise . The noise is quite a loud ticking and is very disconcerting .
But , as not enough power is a reason for the harddrive not functioning
properly , the lack of power may also be a reson for the screen jerking as I
scroll down a web page .
I notice when I attempt to view a video clip , say , a news item , it will
flicker and then deteriorate and then stop .
There are some ideas for you to consider .
And I am sure an exoert can tell you what I say here is right or wrong or
have another reason .
I am only guessing about the jerking .
But I am very interested in seeing what comes of your post because my
computer has been like this for a year and 3 months .
But don't worry , the electricity situation I live in is being studied
very carefully at this point .

Howdie therlo11 ,
I have set my power saving features , the 3 settings in Windows XP Home
Edition , to Never but the screen still goes into standby . It may be that
it should be doing this , but that does not seem right .
