Refreshing Open file list

If I create a new file or folder, then open FrontPage to edit it, it often
cannot be found by the program and does not appear in the Open dialog file
list. Why does FrontPage always seem to load OLD file information? Sometimes
if I press F5 to Refresh in the Open dialog it will update the directory list
but usually it will not. This is very frustrating and makes it difficult to
open new, moved or renamed files for editing.

Clear your FP web cache
(see http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm)
- and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks if you add any folders outside of FP

Why not make it easy for FrontPage and less frustrating for you by opening
FrontPage *before* you create these files/folders?

I've found that simple file management (ie copying groups of files to & from
my site and my computer) are easier to handle with WS/FTP than with
FrontPage, and I don't have FrontPage on all of my computers because I see no
need to pay for 5 licenses (though I'm sure MS would love that). I just
couldn't understand why FP was incapable of doing something as simple as
reading the current directory list when you try to open a file.

I don't trust "recalculate hyperlinks" because I'm afraid FP will "update"
something I don't want changed without me knowing it and then troubleshooting
every page in every directory would be a nightmare.

Recalculate Hyperlinks only refreshes the files managed and all links in the site
- anytime to do you anything outside of FP, it knows nothing about the changes because it manages all files thru the hidden FP meta
data on the site (Recalculate Hyperlinks updates that meta data)
If you want to prevent FP from touching certain files
- create a folder for them in the root and convert it to a FP subweb
