Hi Best,
Actually, this is a specific issue. Does the issue occur on all Windows
2000 clients or the specific Windows 2000 client?
Based on my experience, if you perform the command to refresh the local
policy, some event logs will be logged in event log files. For example, if
I run gpupdate.exe on my Windows XP client, we will see Event ID 1704
(Security policy in the Group policy objects has been applied
successfully.) is logged.
Therefore, I suggest you help me collect the necessary information so that
we can check if there a relevant event error has been logged in event log.
I hope the information can address this issue.
Thanks & Regards,
Ken Zhao

| To answer your 1st question: yes it did not take any effect, i.e. the new
| policies did not take effect or refreshed if you like.
|
| This is a large and busy hospital where I visited a client to sort out an
| issue. I had to wait hours before the policies take effect, as the two
| "secedit" command lines failed to refresh (or update the policies). This
| also happened previously. So Ken, I do not know whether it's worth to
visit
| the client again to get the event logs for the purpose of your kind
| investigation ?
|
| I initially assumed that there might be a "fix" for this which I could
use
| if this would happen again. But it seems that this issue needs to be
| investigated.
|
| Kind regards
|
| Best
