Reformatting.

I have tons of spyware on my pc thanks to my family and friends -_-. And I
want to reformat my computer. I have windows xp pro on it right and want to
reformat with xo pro. I want to do this cause nothing I get can get rid of
this spyware plus I would like my pc to start with a clean slate. How would I
go about reformatting it and it is bad to do so?
