im sure this must sound like a stupid question but.... how
does one reformat windows 2000 to the orignal from,
meaning, how do i kill everything on my pc and start anew?

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

You can, from within the usual W2k installer, delete/create/format any
partition(s) on your machine, including the partition holding the
installed W2k. (You may have discovered that you cannot delete the W2k
partition from with W2k when it is running. This is true of any good OS.)

If you want a clean install of W2k, start the install process and follow
the prompts. Go only as far as deleting the existing partition(s) you
wish to obliterate. Then abort that install.

Then from a reboot start the install again, and proceed to install W2k
in the free space in a partition of the size you wish. The abort/restart
will prevent unexpected drive letter assignment(s).

Then, when W2k is successfully installed, use Disk Management to create
and format any further partitions, as you wish, in the remaining free
space on the hard drive.
