Can anyone assist....
I recently became a Windows 2000 user and soon thereafter
my computer got hit with a virus and would not run
correctly. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to try to
rid the virus from the computer I decided I to reformat
the machine. When I tried to reformat the hard drive
things went awry and now when I start the computer the
machine does not boot up. I can get to the setup menu (by
hitting F2) but right after this the machine hangs up. I
have my Windows 2000 CD and I have a Windows 98 bootable
floppy, but when I try to use these two in combination the
machine sees the floppy but never the CD. Right now I do
not know what to do. I need to make sure that I wiped out
everything that was on the machine and I would like to
reinstall everything from scratch. Does anyone know how I
do this or where I can get instruction. Thanks.

1) Use the CD only. If that doesn't work, there are 2 possible answers
a) BIOS is not configured to boot from the CD. In which case, go into the
bios setup menu, and hunt up something that resembes "boot order" (exact
words may vary). and set the CD to boot before the Hard Disk.
b) CD, MB or bios does not support booting from CD. in which case you
will need to run the makeboot utility located on the CD in the directory
labelled bootdisk. You will need 4 blank floppy disks and access to a
computer with a cdrom and a floppy drive running at least windows95. Then
use disk #1 to boot the machine and put the cd in the drive, insert
subsequent disks when prompted. This brings you to the setup menu. From
there, follow the prompts to delete the partition, re-create it and
instoll win2k on it.
