Reformatting hard drive and want to save messages

I need to reformat my hard drive and want to save my outlook messages to an
external drive somehow so I can get them back afterwards. I can't figure out
from the help how to do this, and any assistance will be much appreciated.

I'm using Outlook 2002, XPPro with SP3.

Copy your PST while Outlook's closed.

Do not multipost. Put both newsgroup names in the Newsgroups field at the
same time, separated by a comma in order to post the same question in multiple
newsgroups.
