I used an advance install on an xp oem version to
overwrite/reformat my hard drive and do a full install
over win 98. I thought it would get rid of my old files
especially when I chose the ntfs format,but it did not. I
have tried to reformat my hard drive with a boot disk but
it says that is not a supportable command now that I am
using xp.

Don't know what you did, but see the link below. BTW If this is an OEM, you
can only do a clean install.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
Click on or copy and paste the link below into your web browser address bar.
How to clean install XP.

Please post back with results or problems with the instructions.
