The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

7. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

8. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:

You cannot format the partition that has XP installed on it. If you mean
how do you format another disk drive or another partition, then just right
click on My Computer, click Manage and under Storage you will find Disk
Management. You can right click on the add-on disk or another partition and
format is a choice.

You can use the XP CD to format (and install).

You cannot format the drive/partition that booted the
computer. If you boot from a CD, such as Partition Magic or
even the XP CD, you can format any partition.

Is there a way to reformat my hard drive after instaling
windows xp home edition?
.
If you want to take everything off your computer, you
can do this, Go to dos and type this command. format c:\s
but if you do this it will take everything off and all
you will have left is dos. I dont know if this is what
you wanted but good luck

has no DOS to boot into, you must use the XP disk to boot
(or some other bootable disk, such as Partition Magic) to
format the XP partition.

Kimbe,
You post like you are a very attractive blond. I hope you don't think that
it is being condendsending, as I see no difference in your hair color being
blond linked to your IQ. I do take offence with your attitude towards MVP's
regardless of your hair color.
