Dear users,

I am a novice user, and I would like to reformat my HD
and re- install Windows XP from scratch. However I don't want to mess up and
I would really appreciate if you could provide with the steps required.

Thanks in advance,

Honestly

Dear Will,

Thanks!! That helped a lot. I do have a question, though.

I currently have Windows XP Pro installed, but I want to install from
scratch Windows XP Home, so which Windows XP Boot Floppy should I use, the
one for XP or HOME?

Once again, thank you
Bruno

Hi

Try the following for info on a 'clean' install:

Hi Bruno

You can't boot from the XP CD? If not - I believe that there is a difference between the two sets of floppies - although I have never used them. You will have to use the floppies according to the XP version you are going to install.

I normally use the Win 98/ME Boot disk to format the hard disk/partition first and then run 'winnt.exe' from the i386 folder on the XP CD. If you have XP Pro installed now and want to install XP HE instead, this might be a better way to go. The info for this is in the box just under 'XP Boot Floppy Set'.

If you have any problems, please post back.

I see you've already gotten your question answered, but I just
wanted to add a comment. Why do you want XP Home instead of
Professional? Are you aware that Home is a subset of
Professional? There's nothing in Home that's not also in
Professional.

Unless you want the Professional CD to install on another
computer, there's no advantage to doing this.

Yep, You got it. That's why.
