I have an ASUS laptop runnning Windows Vista Home Premium. It has been
upgraded from XP Home. I want to "clean out the cobwebs" by reinstalling
Vista. If I use the recovery CD that came with it, it will take it back to
XP. Can I then use my Vista Product Key and do an Upgrade again on that?
Yes, you could do it that way.
Or you could use the Vista Upgrade DVD to perform a clean installation
of Vista, without having to include all of the OEM's extra "features"
from the Recovery CD, and possibly being stuck with potentially
unremovable (after the upgrade) WinXP-only utilities and/or programs:

Vista with Upgrade Media

NOTE: This method is not supported by Microsoft.
