I wish to install Win98SE and believe I need to reformat my existing
partitioned HDD (NTFS and FAT32) currently loaded with XP.

I'm used to XP's completing this. I can't recall exactly how to do this to
prepare for Win98 clean install. Seems like it was using the boot disk to
get to DOS C: prompt then command format c:
Is this close?

Help appreciated.

Hi Rob,
If I understand your question correctly you wish to get rid of XP and go
only with Win98SE and currently your hard drive is partitioned using both
NTFS and FAT32 formatting. If this is correct you will have to check the
hard drive's manufacturer web site to get a tool, if you don't already have
one, to write zeros to the hard drive before you can use the Win98SE boot
disk to FDISK. To format the hard drive for FAT32 only be sure to select
"enable large disk support" at the beginning of the FDISK operation. Then
using the FDISK instructions create the partitions you desire. Then format
all partitions and install Win98SE. IF you need further instructions post
and I will try to help.

Yes, correct.

My HDD is a Seagate and I've just downloaded the format tool.
Next stop will be to reformat tomorrow night.
Thx
Rob

Worked great!
That was interesting - writing the zeros to the hard drive. Glad I asked.

Thanks JimBob, and Nobody760 too for additional insight!
