OK,

I admit it....I'm CHEAP! I prefer to buy refill kits to replace my
printer ink. But I always seem to have horrible print results right
afterward. I even bought new carts but have trouble even after the
first refill. I never take the carts apart. I just drill into the
color chambers and add the ink. But I get very fuzzy and pale, banded
prints. It acts just like it does when it's running low on ink.

I've read some posts here saying that glycol<?> can build up and clog
the head, but this happens after the very first refill. Also, the
heads drip bad and really trash the inside of my printer.

What am I doing wrong? Please help.

I've had two Lexmarks - one Z23 and one Z33 - in both cases refilling ended
with cart flying into trash. When i asked local reseller who sells refilled
carts and refill kits, he said that refilling Lex carts is very hard, so he
doesn't do it neither he advise to do it by myself...
Now when i refill my Canon 550, it's all perfect.
So, if you're cheap, go for canon... the cheapest possible.

I refill 12A1970 black cartridges 15 or 20 times before they get 'funny'.

I had problems with dripping and bad printing until I learned two things:

1. Refill BEFORE the cartridge is empty: at about 25% or more on the
gauge.

2. Press the syringe VERY SLOWLY. I take at least 60 to 90 seconds per
10cc syringe. I have NEVER had a drip since I started doing that.

Now, I remove the cartridge and weigh it on a postal scale when the
'gauge' says 50 percent. A full 12A1970 is 50 grams. I refill at 30 to 35
grams, and add exactly the amount of ink (1cc = 1 gram) to refill to 50
grams.

A 15M0120 color cartridge weighs 65 grams new. I refill at about 45
grams. The color is more difficult to gauge, but I usually pop the top
off these, and watch for ink carefully at the needle, and stop if ANY
color appears at the top. I've had some good and some bad results
refilling the 15M0120's.

With both cartridges, I have to periodically press the bottom nozzles
down firmly on a doubled paper towel several times to make the ink flow
well, and to remove built-up ink.

Works For Me....

Yep, good old Z3200 was totally different...same cart price and a lot
bigger. I've had such carts in mine Z3200.
But Now at Zxx models, carts are small and very easy become clogged.
