Don't know which cartridge it came from. I'm printing picture on photo
paper. The black lacks grey scale and it's pure black. There is no
transition area between color and black, like the originnal photo has.
You mention that you are printing on photo paper, but are you setting the
paper choice in the printer software to the type of photo paper you are
using? (i.e. Photo paper pro, Glossy photo paper, matte photo paper, etc.)
This printer uses the pigmented ink when you have the setting at plain
paper. Since that is the default selection you have to change it when
printing on any of the photo paper types.>
I used HobbiColor in the OEM cartridge. There were still little canon ink
left when I refilled it. I printed about ten pictures (4 big ones). They
look perfect so far. But I'll hold the judgment till all the canon ink got
out.
OEM carts work very well for refilling. Be sure to refill before you get
the low ink or empty message. The carts last for more refills and work
better longer if you don't let the sponge dry out. Hobbicolor inks have had
good reports on this NG and on the nifty stuff forum. Be very careful that
you use the dye based black ink to refill the bci-6 black cart and the
pigment based ink to fill the bci-3 (larger) cart.
I'd not have dreamed of printing big pictures using OEM ink.
Feels good to forget about ink cost and just print anything you want to! My
wife uses her ip5000 to print emails and website pages and we don't bother
to set her printer to gray scale as the ink is so cheap when refilling. I'm
not reluctant to make duplicates of any and all my pictures for friends and
relatives as we are just talking about pennies. Same goes for the Costco
Glossy photo paper, both 8.5x11 and 4x6.
