What effect do the references have in relation to the security file with
differnt version of windows?

Our database will not retain a reference of Microsoft ADOext.2.7 for DLL and
Security when chosen from the list. It defaults to 2.8 which causes a lot of
problems for users with different versions of Windows. Also, options to
select 2.5 or 2.1 are missing from the reference list.

How do we resolve these issues? Any help appreciated.

You only need that reference if you are using the ADOX object library to
programmatically manipulate database structure or security. If you're not,
you don't need it. If you are, you could specify MDAC 2.8 as a minimum
requirement, or you may be able to use late binding (but I haven't tested
that myself) or you could use DAO instead. The later would be my preference.
