Hey all,

Got me Sp-94 heatsink today :D , one of the best in the world in my graspe at last!

Anyway, after a couple of hours at just gazing in amazment at it, i decided to try and fit it ;). So here i am , removing all the obstrucions, screws etc so i can get the mobo out, that all went smooth, and had me mobo out in minutes. Then i started to remove the clips off my old heatsink fan , and i thought i got them all, but the heatsink wasnt budging. So i had a thorough look around to see if there was a clip or something preventing it from moving, alas i found nothing! So i was tugging it quite hard now, getting pretty impatient, till suddenly it flew off! WITH THE PROCESSOR STUCK ON THE HEATSINK  !! I thought the processor was a gonna for sure, i mean, i was just plain crazy. There was obviously a thermal pad used, as the poor processor was still stuck to the heatsink, and he wasnt budging:(. I wooped out me mums hairdryer and heated up the heatsink for about 3 mins, and then the procssor wiggled free, free as a bird! So i decided to carry on regardless anyway, even though i was sweating buckets in panic, and carried on putting the SP-94 on. After about 20 mins it was all ready and together, power connected n everything. I press the power and i got "keyboard error, blah blah blah" so i though i might not of put it in, so i checked everything over twice, it was all secure. So i turned it on again, same error message. Now im really crapping it, cos theres gonna be over £100 leaving my bank acount for being an idiot :(. Then i notice that i forgot to plug the main hd ide in ;). and suprise suprise it works! I dont know how my proor processor survived, but he did, and im very pleased for him ;).

The moral of the story is, dont let me near your heatsink, cos ill break it and sweat alot.

i would love too put a new, bigger heatsink on my CPU...but im too scared too.

although, im not sure if your experience gives me comfort or more anxiety in the ways of the heatsink...

rest assured, ill never let u near my heatsink now!

nice to hear u got everything working though!
at the present time ive decided to retire when it comes to opening my pc up, its just too risky! i mean imagine that sweat going into your components.................

it'll ruin them

psd99...your like me. im scared i might break somthing, like....opening up the case is a 50% chance of the whole thing buggering up.

its very depressing :(

i would get a XP120, but then again one can assume that if i can worry so much opening up the case, going anywhere near the CPU, heatsink...with the thermal paste and pads and whatever...its a nightmare.

I got me a Areo 7 Heatsink not to long ago, i had some problems (whoops, droped the screwdiver on my motherboad...) but i had no serious problems.

woohoo reefy, looks like you definitely experienced something of a trouser dampening moment there :D

Glad it all worked out for the good.

So all the CPU pins were wrenched out with the clamp on? Any bent pins?

I had a bit of a hairy moment myself over the weekend whilst tidying up cables, I may well post about it.

So how's the new cooler doing then? We seeing an improvement?

Well the funny thing is, the Dell motherboard has no heatsensors on it, so i dont know hows its doing :/. But the reason i got it was because after a heavy gaming sesion there would be a little beeping from the motherboard, and i googled it and read something about it being a motherboard alarm, telling me that my processor is overheating. So that got me worried, as i dont know at what temprature that alarm is set to go off at! The Dell heatsink fan setup is designed to be quiet, not for extreme gaming, and the Sp-94 looks and performs so damn good from what ive seen, i just had to get it for piece of mind.

The pins on the processor after i man handled it were in 100% mint condition, even though the socket lever was still down, meaning locked :/. I was very suprised, i thought there would have been a pin bent or missing. It was quite comical really, cos when i yanked the heatsink off, i looked down and thought "ey up, wheres me processor" ive been running on fresh air ;). The poor thing, it could of ripped off the metal part from the rest of the processor aswell i thought. ahh well, ya live and ya learn.

ey up, wheres me processor

Someone at college came to me for advice after he "Experimented" with his stock intel prescott hsf. He unhooked the levers and yanked. Out came the cooler, and CPU, stuck fast with thermal compound.

Thats what he said.

I thought to myself he's damn lucky, being brand new stuff... I fixed it all for him, he didn't have any thermal compound and he was getting something ridiculous like 65 degrees idle, stock speeds.

Ask imrie bout it, it was his best mate.

Since i installed my SP94, i have just left it there for fear of hurting things. The thing has to be clampled on to the back of the motherboard!!
