Hi all,

A friend of mine is having difficulty with AVI clips that are
inserted into MM2. Here is the problem he is having, in his words:

1) The clips that i put in movie maker are extended. Instead of the
clips ending where i stopped recording, they add a section of blank
black screen at the end of them.

2) Some clips are sliced in half or reduced to some other amount.
When I play them back on real player/media player out of the fraps
folder they are fine....exactly how i recorded them, but regardless
of how many times i take them out and put them back in WMM2 they
always get reduced.

He tried reinstalling MM2 but still has the same problem. Could this
have anything to do with Automatic Clip Detection? We are at a total
loss. Any ideas?

TIA

I would guess that the issue is with codecs. Is your friend using the
essentially uncompressed AVI files from Fraps in Movie Maker, or has he
compressed the files to Divx encoded ones, as the Freps FAQ suggests?

If compressed with Divx, then the codec needed to play them might not be in
sync with the codecs that Movie Maker is using.

Thank you PapaJohn for the response--my friend has taken the
uncompressed AVI's out of the Fraps folder and imported them directly
into MM2, no work done in Virtual Dub, etc. I have done this many
times
and had no problem whatsoever with the clips. Also, all of his
settings
on MM2 are set at default.

Any more suggestions? Thanks, we really appreciate the help, and nice
MM2 website PapaJohn!

Has he been successful before and this is a new thing? Or is he trying to do
what you have been successful at and just doesn't have as good a computer,
or one as well tuned?

He needs to try it on a small file (maybe a minute) and render to a smaller
WMV file, and work his way up as he assesses how it's going.

PapaJohn

He said he has been able to complete movies before, and this
shortening/extending of clips just began for him with no changes in
the program or system.

I'll tell him to work with a small file, as the clips I know he might
be working with are rather large (perhaps around 200 to 300 mb each).

Thanks again,
J J
