Redrawing of desktop icons taking place

Sometimes when I switch back to my desktop, the icons will be generic
for just a second, then will redraw to what they should be. Same will
occur with the file icons [detail view] in explorer.

I have 1/2 gig ram & 128 meg on the GeForce card. So, everything is
snappy, except for the times when this happens. I saw some reference to
icon cache settings. Any correlation here?

If you can remember the 60's.....you weren't really there.

Maybe. Delete the C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\LOCAL
SETTINGS\APPLICATION DATA\ICONCACHE.DB file and restart Windows. This
may help.

I don't have any of the folders below username, and, no iconcache.db on
the C: drive.

In the Explorer go to Tools > Folder Options > View . Make sure that
"Show hidden files and folders " is selected here. Retry.
