Dear All,

I have an issue that I need some help to get solved.

1.
We have decided to redirect My Documents folder to an share on the
network by
using GPO; i.e. "\\server-001\%UserName%$\My Documents" (users home
dir).

On the "My Documents GPO settings" we have are using the features:

Target TAB
Target Folder Location = Redirect to following location
Root Path: = \\server-001\%UserName%$\My Documents

Settings TAB
Grant the user exclusive righst to My Documents = TICKED OFF
Move the contents of My Documents to the new location = TICKED OFF
Policy Removal = Redirect the folder back to the local userprofile
location when policy is removed.

This GPO will therefore create the "My Documents" folder in the share
\\server-001\%UserName%$\ if this folder doesn't exist when the user
logs into XP. When the user (who have access to this folder) browse
this share, the "My Documents" Folder is displayed as "UserName's
Documents", i.e. "Anders.Horgen's Documents". This is shown bot on
Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server.

We would like Windwos XP and Windows 2003 Server to display the
"My Documents" folder as "My Documents" and not as
"UserName's Documents" on the physical folder.

Have been playing around a little bit and have noticed following:

A)
If You remove the "Server\Administrators Group" file permissions
from the My Documents folder; meaning that it is only the user having
access to this folder, then by hitting F5 in windows explorer, the My
Documents folder is displayed as "My Documents". Why isn't the folder
displayed as "UserName's Documents" for the Administrators Group
anymore? This Applies both in Windows 2003 and Windows XP.

B)
If the "My Documents" folder is created manually in the
\\server-001\%UserName%$\ share; then the "My Documents" folder is
displayed as "My Documents" in Windows 2003 and Windows XP wheter or
not the "Server\Administrators Group" have permissions to this folder.
This folder is then also displayed as "My Documents" for the user.

My conclusion is therefore as follows:
If the "My Documents" folder is created by the Redirect GPO,
then the "My Documents" folder is displayed as "UserName's Documents"
as long as the user accessing it have access righst to the folder,
otherwise it is displayed as "My Documents".

If the "My Documents" folder is created manually; then this
folder is displayed as "My Documents" for everyone wheter or not
the user accessing it have access righst to this folder.

How can You in Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP control that the
"My Documents" folder shall always be displayed as "My Documents" when
browsing this folder?

I really apperciate that You took time reading this and are greatfull
for any assitance!

Thanks
With Best Regards
Anders Horgen

Anders,

I do not know how to solve this issue but I would think that you would
have to make some kind of change in the registry.
