This is an option under Explorer> Special Folders in TweakUI for XP.
TweakUI is one of the Power toys for XP. This version is *only* for XP with
SP1:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you do not have SP1 installed, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

After one downloads TweakUI, how do you accomplish the
below task?

Open Tweak UI. Unlike its predecessors that resided in the Control Panel,
this version starts from a start menu shortcut. In the left hand column,
click the + next to My Computer. In the section that extends from My
Computer, click on "Special Folders."

The drop down box offers several "Shared" choices: documents, music,
pictures and video. Select the one you want and click Apply. The folder and
necessary registry info will be created. Move files from the "old" Shared
folder to the new.

I've downloaded TweakUI and within the program found
under My computer > special folders the oppotunity to
change the location of Shared documents. But the change
is not saved. Even if I hit apply and then OK the change
is not stored. I have XP SP1 and is logged in as
administrator. What am I doing wrong??

Hello,
I have the same need and I did the same with TweakUI and it didn't work
either.
I also tried to change the registry where there is a key called :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders\Common Documents.
I changed it to the new location, but without success. It has been saved in
the registry, but as sson as I reboot the system, it came back to the former
value.

See this article by Kent England located on MVP Kelly Theriot's site:

In the meantime, a workaround is to create a folder on the drive that has
room. Move the files you want to share to it. Then use Properties to share
the folder and its contents.

I have moved the files to another partition and shared
the folder. But I was hoping to get the functionality
within the explorer, so by clicking the Shared
Documents "shortcut" i would go to the rigth place and
not to all users\documents.
Is it your oppinion that there is a solution to this
problem or do I have to live with it?
Is it because i use XP pro instead of XP Home?

TweakUI does a so-so job of moving this folder. Not much more is
accomplished than what you could do by creating a separate folder and
sharing it. The trick is getting the NameSpace item (Shared Documents in My
Computer) coordinated with the change in the folder's location. TweakUI
does not update this. I haven't tried all of the steps in Kent's article to
see if they will do that or not.

Personally, on my network, I use Shared Documents for items that only need
to be available on both computers for a short term basis (later archived to
CD or DVD). Separate folders are used to share any large amounts of data.
