redirect program invaded via email

My IE 6 (and it may have been 5.5 at the time) has been
invaded by a program that redirects my IE to a page that
simply says "www.cannot find your search" . The page
displays a search engine and ads.

I believe it actually gained access to my computer around
Valentine's day of this year. I tolerated its invasion
because the "redirect" was only sporadic, but it has
increased. At that time I found some chat about it and
a "fix" that involved messing around with the registry
which i did not feel qualified to do.

Is anyone aware of this "bug" and can lead me to
information on how to remove it? thanks
