Redirect from another url

How do I get my site redirected to the correct url as I see most sites do?

In the unlikely event someone went to the trouble to type in
www.hellscanyonchamberofcommerce.com, I registered that domain and took
advantage of the server's free redirect service thinking that would go to
hellscanyonchamber.com. Downside, our "real" site just comes up with the
longer url and server's advertizing fills the bottom of the site (part of the
free deal).

Am I at the server's mercy, or is there something I can do? Or should I be
asking this somewhere else?

Thanks, Sue

I'm not sure I understand. Is the longer domain "parked' somewhere? When
you say "free redirect service", what do you mean exactly?

If you own the domain, you should be able to go into the domain "control
panel" and edit the nameserver information to redirect the site to the
same URL as the shorter domain name. Entering either URL should then
land the person at your website...

David, I'm not sure I understand either. We bought the longer domain name as
a kind of "insurance." Nothing is published to it. The host service has an
option to "redirect" traffic to the real site. I'm just not happy with how
they do it and notice that on other sites if you type .com and they are .org
for instance, the browser address automatically changes to the correct name.

If "parked somewhere" means is it published somewhere, then no. Would just
the domain name have a control panel? On my hosting server through whom I
registered the two names? We don't want to pay two hosting fees.

I know this isn't exactly an FP issue. But my "real" web is all FP so I
thought I'd try here.

You are at the server's mercy here. The URL is being redirected using
frames: your site in the top frame, the server's advertising in the bottom.
Check with the registrar to see if there is any option to remove the
advertising, such as using DNS to redirect the URL, as David suggested. Or
you could move to a different registrar that does not add advertising.

Thanks to both David and Ronx. May move the site, but my host server has been
very supportive of my learning curve. Also the SEO training Tina suggested is
providing answers on this subject.

I really do appreciate what all of you do, you are each one a jewel.

Sue,
There is no need to move the site. The problem here is how the "long URL"
is redirecting to it.

www.georgesgourmetfoods.co.uk is an example of frames redirection done
"properly", that is without advertising. The actual site is located at
www.rxs-enterprises.org/gourmet/ (This will be changed to using DNS to
point the URL to the actual site by the end of this month.)

By moving the long domain name to another registrar you should be able to
redirect that long URL to your site without the adverts cluttering the
browser. Or the existing registrar may be able to provide a different
solution.

I have a question related in some way to the subject:

I own a domain outside us (.com.ar) which is free of charge.
On the other hand, since I am a Comcast customer, I was able to create a
webiste using the free 25MB space. Can I integrate that domain into my
website so the people gets directed to my website and still see the .com.ar
domain name? is that possible? if so, how?

Thanks in advance,
mx

Well... normally you would have your ISP point that domain name at the same
root folder that contains the content as the other domain but I doubt
Comcast will do that for you. You could try using a site with Frames. On
your .com.ar site set up one frameset page (make the top one very small so
they don't notice it) and then load the Comcast content into the bottom
(main) frame.
