I have a database designed by a long gone employee. I
need to update it to include more options in some areas.
I know how to do the updates, the problem is accessing
the design views of the database.

When you click the icon for the database it autoexecs a
form from which you click to enter the data entry form or
exit back out. There are minimal tools on the toolbar,
none of which will allow me into design mode. Basically
the database has been locked to prevent tampering. But I
really really need to tamper!

Short of tracking the original designer of the form down
and strangling him, how can I get into it to do the
updates I need? And then lock it again so Admin can get
in but regular users can't mess it up?

right-click on the icon and select Open while holding down the shift key.
(alternatively, open Access and select file -open select the db, and hold
down the shift key when opening. Provided it is an mdb file and not mde,
then you can make changes.
