Red X's??

Hello!

I'm on my second day of experimenting with Windows Movie Maker 2.1. I'm
creating a video from still photos combined with music and transition
effects. Everything was going along fine, until for no reason, the pictures
in the slideshow disappeared, leaving red X's behind; and in the video, there
would be a blank spot.

I right-clicked on the X's and selected "Browse for missing file"--this
would recover the file in the slideshow, but not in the video.

I'm using jpeg files from my PC for the photos. My computer is decently fast
and just came off a full-service scan--defragmenting, etc. It's clean of
spyware, etc.

I read on Papajohn's site that having other programs open at the time can
affect movie maker--I'm multitasking, so I have other programs open. Is this
the cause? Or, could it be that the video is long? (I'm up to about 25 photos
already, and I want to add more still.)

I also read that a project can be saved in small sections, then combined
again in the final version. How do I do this?

Thanks for your help!!!

Usually the red x means that you have moved the file. If you moved the file,
you can find it again by browsing for it. The best thing to do, don't move
the files that you use for movie maker. If you have the harddrive space, make
a folder labelled stuff for movie maker, put the items you are going to use
in the video in that folder, and don't move it anymore. Sometimes the link
will reestablish for the library, but not for the movie. You may have to
replace it in the movie. The best thing to do, is just don't move the file.

the red X's wouldn't appear in a saved movie.... just in the project file.
The only normal reason would by you deleting or changing the path or file
names of the pictures.

beyond the normal reasons, maybe a user permissions issue...

Charles, you're a genius!!

I had all my photos in a specific file for the movie I was making, but for
better organization, I created an "already in the video" folder for the
pictures I was done with...and MOVED them there.

In other words, I cleaned up my desk, and now I can't find anything. :);)

THANK YOU!!

Thanks, PapaJohn!! I'll remember that about the saved movie--and about
changing file names. I tend to do that quite often, in projects.

THANK YOU!!

i have a question here too... when i try logging in to my Windows Movie
Maker...there's a prompt that always says " The file for video transitions
and effects is missing"...what do you think might be the problem?

your thoughts...thanks
