Red X's/ No sounds

I have windows XP.
I use gif's and sounds to my mail and when I send them out
all my friends get are little red X's and no gif's. The
sound is not there either.
I have tried every thing. I have looked in to my virus
protector and there is nothing in it stopping them. Can
some one please help me.

Once cause of this could be Hotbar - did you install Hotbar?
