Johnny Boy

My 23-minute movie was finished and saved. It froze; I
had to shutdown and restart my computer. Fortunately,
(like before) XP restored my movie maker file, however,
there were red X's in place of all my video clips and
audio clips. (Titles and Audio/Music are OK. I am just
sick. What has happened? What did I do wrong? Can this
be fixed? This was the 3rd time it froze on me but
previously everying thing was as just fine after the re-
boot.

Johnny Boy,

Just ran acros the Generation-X Thingy recently, but for
another reason.
however,
there were red X's in place of all my video clips and
audio clips.

The path between the project file and source file has been
broken.
Verify your source clips still exist in the original
folders and under their original names, exactly.
In other words, make sure that XP didn't add to, change or
corrupt the file names in order to save them. The project
file only knows to look for those origunal names from
those "imported" places. If these change the project file
cannot display the clip and displays an X.

If they have been changed, correct them to their original
names then restart MM2.
The red X's might be gone.

If not and you have no other options, such as working with
the files names path with regard to the Collection file
recognition, try reimporting the orginal source files, if
still existent, to your movie project file again.
What did I do wrong?

Turn off all unnecessary programs running in the
background.
You might be clicking too fast for MM2 tasking. Make sure
your Hardrive has finished it's work before moving onto
the next task.
This was the 3rd time it froze on me

Yeah, save regularly. These hang or crash events seem to
be a recurring problem for many.
Wish I knew why.

Hope this helps you.

Anthony.
