Red X / Windows XP Share

I have tried everything including all the posts on the autodisconnect command
line and registry entries but my Windows XP machine keeps dropping it share
drive.

Here is my set up. I have a Windows 2000 client accessing a Windows XP
client. There is a drive on the Windows XP client labeled F. The Windows
2000 machine has mapped a drive labeled D to the shared drive F on the
Windows XP client.

However whenever I access My Computer on the Windows 2000 client after about
15 minutes it shows a Red X on the Mapped D drive. I can click on it and
access it but I need it connected always because I run a backup program that
copies all the data to the D drive at night. However, the backup never works
since the drive D keeps getting disconnected from the Windows XP machine.

Anybody got any other ideas.

try doing net config server /autodisconnect:-1 on the xp box

Barry,

Thanks for the reply. However this does not work. I tried this before on
the XP machine and whenever I connect remotely to the Windows 2000 machine
the red x still shows up on the mapped share drive to the Windows XP machine
in My Computer.

I may not be much help here, but I wonder if the drive on the XP machine is
not hibernating(in some kind of sleep mode)? I think this because he
mentions that it takes about 15 minutes for the red x to appear.

Okay good news on this issue. Barry's trick worked! It just took a while
for the Windows XP client computer to update itself with the change.
Yesterday I kept checking it every few hours and it finally showed the shared
drive mapped without the Red X after about 5 hours. Also, Gary I did check
the hibernation and made sure it was turned off.

Thank you both for your assistance.
