Red X under mapped network drives

Hi , I am running a laptop and a desktop on a wireless router.
I have mapped two drives on my laptop y: and z: to point at a couple
of shared folders on the desktop.

After I boot up the laptop and search for the drives in Windows
Explorer, I have red X under both the y: and z:. But I can access both
drives when I double click on them.

The problem is for instance, I am sharing my personal files for
Quicken. When I load quicken it can't find the file and asks if I will
be loading a new account. It does give me an option to search for a
new file and all I do is point to the file on the mapped drive and it
works fine.

I could close the program and restart it and it will recognize the
file, but again, if I reboot my laptop I have to repeat the above
procedure.

This also occurs on a couple of other programs that I share files
with.

Any suggestions?

Thx
Dan

I believe WindowsXP doesn't automatically reconnect mapped network drives on
reboot (which is why you need to double click on them). I recall reading
somewhere that this is a deliberate policy because to do so automatically
would be a security risk. Can't recall where I read that though sorry.
