Check your monitor cable. On some monitors, you'll need to check both the
connection by the monitor and by the computer. The distortion on one side
could be magnetic. Did you recently set any speakers next to it? Most home
stereo and bookshelf system speakers are not magnetically shielded and you
have to make sure not to have them too close.
After you've checked those factors out, find out if it's a video driver
problem. The quickest and easiest way is to go into Safe Mode and see if
you still have the problem. In safe mode, you are in "VGA mode" which
pretty much means you're in the basic color scheme. If you still have
problems, there's a good chance that the monitor may be defective.
I hope that helps!
