A Adam Jun 9, 2008 #3 If you mean the background of certain items are shaded, that's just the start menu telling you that new programs have been installed, and the highlighted items are the shortcuts to those programs. If you don't like it, remove it by: Right-click the Start orb Choose Properties Choose to Customize the Start Menu Scroll down to "Highlight..." and untick that option.
