Red crosses instead of pictures

I keep getting a lot of red crosses where pictures should be. Have recently
installed Service Pack 2, could this be anything to do with it? How can I
sort the problem out?

Red X image displayed where the applet should be, applets won't run

You should download the newest Java software, available
free, from Sun Microsystems:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Make sure to uninstall the old version of Java first.
