I see that the Recycle Bin's context menu in Vista RTM no longer has an
option to "Delete" the recycle bin, which was a big step forward from
RC2 :)

I'd say that sounds more like a feature then a bug...

Do one of the following:

. To delete one file, click it, and then press DELETE.

. To delete all of the files, on the toolbar, click Empty the
Recycle Bin.

Tips
a.. To empty the Recycle Bin without opening it, right-click
the Recycle Bin, and then click Empty Recycle Bin.
b.. To permanently delete a file from your computer without
first sending it to the Recycle Bin, click the file, and then press
SHIFT+DELETE.

To change settings:

1. On the desktop, right-click Recycle Bin, and then click
Properties.

2. Click the General tab, and then do any of the following:

. To set the maximum storage size of the Recycle Bin,
enter a number in the Maximum size box, which sets the Recycle Bin's maximum
size (measured in megabytes) for the selected Recycle Bin under Recycle Bin
Location.

. To turn off the delete confirmation dialog box, clear
the Display delete confirmation dialog check box.

. To immediately remove files from your computer when you
delete them, click Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. If you do this,
your files will always be permanently removed when deleted

My Recycle Bin has a Delete option. It's the 5th item down from the top of
the right-click menu (2nd item in the 2nd grouping). I also know it's
functional since I accidently deleted the Recycle Bin once instead of merely
emptying it. I highly disagree with the presence of a delete option on that
menu. If I want to remove it from the Desktop, I'll go to Change Desktop
Icons from the Personalization menu (where it's added).

Oh my. I was being perfectly serious. In Vista RC2, my Recycle Bin's
context menu had a "delete" option (which would delete the recycle bin
itself). Yesterday, now using Vista Ultimate RTM, I could swear that I'd
noticed that--just before I made my original post in this thread--my
Recycle Bin's context menu had *no* "delete" option. This delighted me,
and that was what I was expressing in my original post. Today, when I
check again, not only do I see that same old "delete" option in my
Recycle Bin's context menu, but there is even an "Erase Recycle Bin"
option for my Eraser program. :(

Sure it does. I am looking at "Delete" on the context menu right now.

I think that Ramesh MVP knows how to get rid of these. He helped me with
some context menu registry editing, to move certain folder context menus
*to* the Recycle Bin, and make them not appear on normal folders. If that's
possible, I would have though removing them is possible too.

I would certainly appreciate learning of some tricks for editing context
menus in Vista. Having options in the Recycle Bin's context menu to not
only "delete" the recycle bin, but to even "erase" the recycle bin, is
ridiculous.

Several of us MVP's fought with the Shell Team from time to time in TechBeta
over the Delete item and all we got out of it was the confirmation dialog
box containing the instructions on restoring it. In Beta 1 there wasn't
even that.

Their reasoning was that some people (which I read to mean some one very
important people) like a completely empty desktop. Our reasoning was that
that was already controlled with the checkbox in Desktop Icons and was a
very infrequent (usually one-time) change.

I hope Ramesh or Kelly or somebody comes up with the registry edit to remove
the Delete item from the context menu. We MVP's argued strenously that
"where did my recycle bin go?" will be a top question in the Vista ng's
forever and there just was no need for the pain point. We should have a
stronger argument (based on the track record) by the time SP1 enters beta.
I predict that this will be a hot item in the ng starting next month.
