Hello group,

I no longer see the icon for my recycle bin. I'm not sure why that is. Any
help would be appreciated. Thanks

Go here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm#rb

Scroll down to the section titled "Recycle Bin - Repair or Replace"

Right-click the link there named "Replace/Repair the Recycle Bin", and click "Save
As" on the menu that appears, then save it to your desktop.

It is a REG file. Double-click the saved file on your desktop, named
recycbin-2.reg, and click OK at the prompt to import it.

When done, right-click the desktop and click "Refresh" on the menu that appears.

Direct link to the REG file to download:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/recycbin-2.reg

Let us know if this returns the Bin to your desktop.

If he's only just lost it would doing a System Restore to just before it was
lost work Glen ?

Well, probably, Joan.
My line of thought is that it's simpler to merge a small REG file to fix the one
issue, than to do a System Restore which might undo other things, like updates and
installations, if it goes back too far.

Right click on Desktop\Properties\Desktop\Customize Desktop and the rest is elementary

Glee / Joan

If the OP doesn't have the wrong security software installed like
Norton. Complaints that System Restore no longer works litter these
neswgroups nowadays.

"and the rest is elementary"! How's that?

Perhaps you're thinking of another icon as the Recycle Bin is not one of
three icons where display is optional?

Although it IS a feature in TweakUI's "Desktop" option. Might be worth the
OP giving that a try...

Yep, sorry, should've linked to it. Actual TweakUI page now seems to be
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Made me laugh, though - I went to the old PowerToys page and it bounces you
to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-xp/default.aspx, the main XP
page. What's occupying most of the screen? "Upgrade to Windows Vista.... The
best version of Windows yet... Top 10 things you can do with Windows
Vista... More reasons to use Windows Vista..."

That's a pain. I use my Sent Items folder to post parts of many posts. I
have had to post a new message to myself to get the right link for the
next post about Tweak Ui. Thanks for pointing out the change.

It is on mine but I should have known that I was thinking how it is on my W2K3 Server.

Thanks Jerry for catching that
