Recycle Bin Refuses to Empty

I have recently had problems with the recyle bin. It
refuses to empty when containing deleted folders. The
whole system freezes up and I have to switch off and then
re-boot.

I am running XP Home on a Pentium 4 with 128 MB RAM.

I have had a look on the Microsoft knowledge base, but
the answers there relate to other Windows systems than
XP. In the event, the solutions suggested could not be
carried out. I did try.

Grateful for any pointers on how to empty the bin.

The absolutely first thing I would recommend is that you upgrade your
system. Add memory - 128M is just not enough for Windows XP. The
absolute minimum I recommend is 256M, the normal I recommend is 512M,
and if your system will hold it, 1G is not too much. Memory is cheap
- get some.

That said, I would check for spyware too. You need a combination of
HijackThis and Spybot S&D, and expert advice at SWI Forums (all free).
