recursive query suddenly fails

I have 2 servers running DNS, being configured as a standard dns server setup with primary and secondary servers.

Well these 2 servers have been running with no problems at all, for about 1½ year, but suddenly they start behaving strange. once in a while (from 1 to 8 times a day), the primary server stops being able to make a recursive lookup!! With no apperant reason. To make the server regain its ability to make a succesfull recursive lookup I have to - and now this is getting strange - change the alternate dns under the TCP/IP settings on the primary NIC to another server... thus, (I guess) initialising the NIC ... Then everything works fine for the next couple of hours and then I have to do it again ...

I'm getting kind of desperate and any help is very appreciated

Thank
Mikael

Does the DNS server have forwarder setup? If so, where do they point:
Please post
1) ipconfig /all on dns server
2) dnscmd /info on dns server
