Ok, I've become very frustrated over the past while trying
to get WinXP Pro to talk to Win2000. Everywhere I look it's
all about ICS. I have Win2000 talking to other Win2000
machines and to 98 without difficulty. I also have WinXP
talking to Win98 without difficulty. Can someone tell me
why WinXP and Win200 can't talk to each other? I can see
the XP from Win2000 but can't access it. All subnet masks,
ip addresses, everything is fine. I have a good idea of
what I'm doing and everything I've done should allow this
to work. Can someone fill me in on how to get them talking
to each other plz? Many thx

A few things to check:

Are they in the same workgroup?
Have you defined shares on the machines?
Can you ping them from each other?

Please expand a bit more on your configuration and what
you've tried already.

Thanks.

I have that config here - all ok - have you arranged logins on the XP
machine to allow the 2K's in?

Just a thought ...

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
