Recurring Appointments Disappeared

I have a recurring appointment listed on my calendar in Outlook (XP). It
shows that every other weekend is spent with my stepsons.

When I went into my archives to see if they were with us on a particular
date last year, I discovered that there were no recurrences listed anywhere.

Why have these disappeared, and can I get them back?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I don't think they've disappeared. Rather, they've never been archived in
the first place. A recurring entry is a single entry, even though it
appears multiple times on the calendar. Thus, it's active and is ignored by
autoarchive. Those "past" entries are not really there at all as separate
entries.

Thank you for your quick response, Brian!

Does that mean that if I give this series an end date, it will no longer be
active and will show up in my archives, or am I being overly optimistic?

the old ones should be there unless you archived them or deleted them.

The point is that the old ones do not appear in the archives. The issue
isn't that the old entries don't appear in the main calendar. They do. My
(albeit brief) testing seems to indicate that as long as a recurring item is
still active, that past entries don't get archived, since they're not
actually separate entries.

I tried giving the recurring appointment an end date so that it is no longer
active, but it still doesn't show up in my archives. Sigh. I guess I'll
have to keep counting backwards to figure out my dates...

Archive uses the modified date of the item. When you modified the recurring
item, the modified date was changed to the date you made the modification.
It will take a while for it to age enough to be caught by your archive date
setting.
