recovery tool winxp

Hello all,

i have windows xp, and i think my harddrive is broken.

When i go to the recovery tool is askes me this:

whic windows you want to logon to?

1: C:\WINDOWS

when i chose one, the systems restarts, when i press enter, the same thing
happens, what can be wrong?

I believe it thinks you have a dual boot system. Or perhaps, you hav
more then one Windows directories on your hard drive or drives

It sounds like linux or some other operation system was installed

This asks you this every time you boot

It will ask you what install to "log into" even if there is only one.
The next prompt he should be seeing is for the administrator's password,
but apparently it fubars before getting to that.
