I have gone into device manager several times and
uninstalled the hardware . The computer sees the dvd-cdrom
because it comes back up on the hardware device menue,
however the big yellow explanation mark is there also. I
bought a new dvd-cdrom and they both are loaded but
neither willconnect. One drive is a scussi. all of the
jumpers are in the right place. When booting up both dvd
cd rom show in the listing of hardware. All my experts
have scratched their heads after several attempts. The
only conclusion is to reboot my MS 2000 disk but of course
the cd rom is not working... Neal Gray
I almost did not reply at all because I feel I have little if any in
the way of a resolution for you.
Whew. I doubt I can help but have suggestion to try.
In device manager Uninstall the device(s).
Shutdown
Physically disconnect the devices
Boot
Check for any signs of the now disconnected hardware. Remove if
found. To facilitate this:
From a CMD prompt
SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
devmgmt.msc
The in device manager use the View menu to Show hidden devices.
Check in the normal listings and also in Non-Plug and play drivers.
Anything you are _certain_ is part of the problem, uninstall it.
If not certain, don't. And as always have made a precautionary Full
Registry Backup in advance. Possibly with ntbackup.
Shutdown
Connect the device and boot.
Beyond that I cannot say as unknown here if W2K has built-it support
for it or not. Masy need manufacturer drivers... May be a bad INF
file...
All above is _thin_ as too many unknowns and variables. Just some
ideas that may help you and those experts. This is not likely a
problem that can be solved via newsgroups unless there are some
specific error messages/eventlog messages. And it is likely that a
better group than *.registry could be found for help (possibly
win2000.hardware). Next time include all details like OS and SP and
SCSI controller and DVD make/model, text of any error dialogs or
eventlog messages, etc. Good luck.
