Hi,

I have a very simple question about domain recovery.

Suppose that I have a mixed mode single Windows 2000 AD domain that has
only one Windows 2000 DC and two NT backup domain controllers. If my AD DC
will be totally broken, ie. there's no way to get it back online and run
dcpromo to remove the DC role, which will be the ways to recover from the
situation without loosing my domain information?

Can I just promote one of my BDCs to PDC or is there a lot of extra work to
be done?

If the BDC promotion will solve the problem is it possible to destroy the
groups that the domain upgrade added to the domain database, ie. Enterprise
Admins, Schema Admins and so on?

You can promote one of your BDC's to AD, but you will lose all your OU
structure, ad NT BDC's have no info about that. I would suggest you to
upgrade one of your NT4 BDC's to AD if you can and do a regular backup of
your AD, so you can restore in case of hardware failure.

Thank you. However, you obviously meant to say "You can promote one of your
BDC's to PDC" instead of AD?
