recovery console won't accept proper password

I recently had to use the recovery console that you get to by booting
from the XP cd.

Now that the hard disc problems are gone (new one installed), I
thought I'd make sure I can get back into the recovery console if I
ever need it again.

I can't.

My adminstrator account had no password. Recovery console insisted on
one and wouldn't let me in.

So I booted up regular, created a password, created a no-forgotten
password disk to prove xp recognized the password, and shut down.

i then booted up regular and XP recognized the password and let me in.

so I shut down, and when when i tried to boot off the XP CD and get
into recovery console and entered the proper password, it still told
me it was the improper password.

but the computer knows it's the proper password, since i can boot up
fine regularly after entering that password.

could my xp cd be corrupt? or what?

possible wrinkle: the new hard drive was set up by using Drive Image 7
to just copy over the image of the old hard drive. everything else on
the computer works fine. so i kind of doubt this is the cause of my
problem, but figured i should mention it.

thanks!!

Hi,

Just a thought, but make sure you are using the right letter case (upper vs
lower) and that the numlock key is enabled when booting to the Recovery
Console.
