recovery cd

My windows xp on my computer says I am missing a program and I have recovery
cd's but it won't run any of them, it won't do anything. I can't start it in
safe mode it won't do anything except it has a program missing?
Any suggestions?
 
a recovery cd is not the
same as a windows setup/
installation cd.

the recovery cd's you are
likely referring to are factory
restore disks.

these kinds of disks are
designed to wipe away
everything from the hard drive
and then reinstall all the
original software back onto
your computer that it had
at the time you bought it.

to use the recovery disks
you will have to initiate a
factory restore procedure.

because the steps are
different between all
computer makers, you
will have to go to your
computers home site
or review the computer
manual to get the
instructions.

however, the above is
pretty drastic and should
be the last option used to
fix your computer.

so our questions is, what
exactly is your computer
telling you?

you say there is a problem
with some program, but
there are millions of them
from our perspective.

Please post the complete and exact text of the message you are seeing.
And when you ask a question about Windows XP, we need to know exactly
what flavor of XP you have, including the service pack.

Recovery CDs are often only of use if you have to reinstall from scratch.
Normally, you can't do any other kind of repair install or system
maintenance with them.

What is it you think you are missing?
