I got Win XP Home Edition German together with my Acer Pc.
I got two XP Home Cd's. But they can be used only together
with a recovery tool, which always formats the complete
HDD. There is no possibility to customize the setup before
starting the installation. This is due to a modification
which packs the whole Win Xp into two acr images. The Cd's
are made by Acer. Is this a violation of the "Echtheits
Certifikat"(Certificate of authenticy)?
In my eyes this is only a crippled version of Win Xp,
because the installation routines are part of the
operating system, too.

Greetings Stefan

You hit the nail on the head. You have the manufacturers
OEM version and you are at their mercy. It's all factors
in to money money money. They save money by not giving
you a "real" version. You can't even get technical
support from Microsoft. You have to go back to the
company you bought the computer from.
I have a KDS laptop that I purchased from one of the tv
shopping networks and I also got a recovery disk (not a
real copy). It is frustrating because you don't have the
abilty to partition the hard drive like you want it. A
lot of companies are doing this. I work in a computer
environment and I've seen many computer companies do
this. All you can do is bite the bullet and go buy a
copy, but then you lose because you can't reinstall all
the programs they put in the rcovery disks. It's one of
those gotchas! Cheers.

Nope, Microsoft only requires a way to restore to the original shipped
state.
