Recovering photos

While copying some photo file to a CD I've substituted some other files and
lost them consequently. It probably happened yesterday. Is there any way of
recovering this files?

Could you explain what you mean by "substituted"?

If you mean you received a message like:

"The folder already contains a file named xxxxx.jpg...
would you like to replace the existing file"

If you clicked "Yes" or "Yes to all"...your files have
been overwritten and are not recoverable.

If you simply accidentally deleted some files...
you may be able to recover them with software

my daughter did this also to our holiday pics. it sounds like it was
overwriting them is that so?. i did everything to restore them but of course
if they are overwritten not deleted thers nothing i could do.
