Hi all - new to this so please be gentle. I have recently upgraded to Windows
XP home edition. When I was on WINDOWS ME and inserted my family photos CD I
was able to view all its contents by clicking on the drive/properties and
then volumes. This would allow me to view all pictures stored on that
particular cd. However now that I am on XP I have'nt a clue how to find all
my photos. Am I missing somethind or is there a simple solution as to how I
can recall them all.
I am desperate to find them as I need to print a photo of my parents wedding
day for their 50th aniversary.
Please anyone can you help.

1. If you updated from ME, you also need to update your CD drive driver to
be compatible with XP. You need to go to the CD drive manufacturer and
download and install the XP driver for it.
2. You can check if XP recognizes your CD drive by opening My Computer. The
CD drive should be listed there under Drive with removable storage. If it is
listed, double click on it to open it and read your CD.
3. I have not worked with ME, but I suspect that CDs copied with it will not
be readable on XP unless you install a UDF reader. This is available from
here:

Free...Adaptec UDF Reader Driver 5.1.1.213
http://download.com.com/3000-2100-9497911.html

Reboot after installing the driver and now open your CD.

Hi and thanks for answering. I should have pointed out that in the 1st place
that it was not an upgrade but a totally new system which I purchased ie new
computer. Do I still need to update the cd drive driver?

If the following steps do not allow you
to access your images...try downloading
and installing the UDF Reader that
Yves suggested.

Insert the CD in your CD drive. A
dialog box may appear on your screen
that says: What do you want windows
to do? You will have several choices...
Choose...
"Open Folder To View Files" / "OK".

If the dialog box does not appear...
go to the *My Computer* icon on your
desktop and left click it. In the window
that opens you will see all of your drives.
Right click the icon for your CD drive...
(probably (D:)...from the menu...choose
...."Open"...

Now you should see a window with
some folders in it. This is the contents of
the CD. Left click the various folders until
you find the image files.

No. All you need is to install the UDF driver to be able to read discs that
you are unable to open when you double click on your CD drive to open the
disk.

[252MB] ISO 9660/Joliet [mode 1]

I can only asume that these sessions are the photos that I cannot view.
Does this make any sense to anyone. And if so how do I access these photos.

Maybe you did not "close" the CD
after the last burn.

Maybe the following download will
help you recover the files.

The last suggestion from John Inzer is certainly worth exploring if
installing a UDF reader did not work.
Here is another concerning Nero and other issues about the compatibility of
previously made CDs that may help you:

instructions. But I still cannot access the parts of the cd which holds the
various photos. I accessed my Nero Express programme and looked in disc info
and came across files which said Multisession CD-ROM it had 10 sessions on
it with various amounts of information ie 252MB with track information for
example 01:00:02.00 28:39.57
[252MB] ISO 9660/Joliet [mode 1]

Despite all our above responses, let us go back to basics.
1. Place your CD in the CD drive. Wait about 15-20 seconds for XP to
recognize it. In normal conditions, a window should open. In this window
several options should be listed. One of them should be to Open the folder
to see the files.
Now, does this window opens or nothing happens?
Give us the answer to this. Or maybe you get an error message. If so tell us
what the error message is.

2. Place your CD in the CD drive. Wait for about 15-20 seconds for XP to
recognize it. Nothing happens. No opening of a window and no error message
as given above. If so, open "My Computer" (you should have an icon on your
desktop that looks like a computer screen display) by double clicking on
this icon. This will open a window. In this window you should see your CD
drive under "Devices with removable storage". Double click on it to open it.
Do you see files listed when you do this? If not tell us what happens.

I know this is not a good experience, missing photo files. But don't panic.
The photos are on the CD. You simply need to find the proper way to get them
on your XP machine.

There is another way to do so if you create a home network. You can connect
the ME machine as well as the XP machine on the network and then copy the
files from ME computer to the XP computer.

Believe me, you are not the first one with this particular kind of problem,
if this is any consolation.

If we can provide further help, let us know.

Hi
thanks again to you both for trying to assist. I can confirm that XP does
open up and I do select open up files. No probs with that. Then the cd open
with "files currently on cd". These are my last photos that I copied on to
the cd. But nothing else is there. With regards to the UDF reader. I
downloaded it. Do I presume that once downloaded it will automatically set in
and help me to view or do I need to do anything else with it, as I clicked
onit and it said it was already updated.??
Puzzled.

John
many thanks for your advice. I accessed the smart-project link and
downloaded ISOBUSTER! And wot dya know. Got my photos back. YOU All have been
a fantastic source of information. Cheers
