I have just modified a lovely photo of my 8 month old daughter in jasc
paintshop but when i saved it i forgot to re name it so the modified picture
was saved where the original was thus deleting the original automatically. It
is not massively important but I would really like the original back. Can I
do this and if so how?

As overwritten, only by restoring the backup copy you made before you began
to edit it. Right?

Once you saved it over the top of the original file the original was gone.
Any chance you created a backup somewhere? Or maybe it's still on the
camera?

Unfortunately I deleted the pictures from the memory card as I downloaded
them and didn't create a back up. I usually rename edited photos I
accidentally didn't this time! So I take it I have lost it?

If the file was on your harddrive, the overwritten file should go to your
recyle bin...
so you need to first rename the file you have...'
then go into your recycle bin and restore it

Thanks for all your help everyone. I have managed to do it now. I downloaded
some free software from a previous discussion called RESTORATION VERSION
3.2.13. This allowed me to find the deleted files on my memory stick. I can't
find the post with the link anymore but if you all need it - its there
somewhere. Thanks again

Suggestion (learned from similar experiences): Change the order of your
work flow. Copy the file THEN begin your editing. You do not need to rename
this picture when done editing unless you want to since you're working with
a copy. Can always create another copy from the original if needed.
