I am trying to recover all contacts and saved emails from a laptop that does
not work. I can get access to ther harddrive through a USB and have recovered
all my old pics, files etc... I cannot find the location of old emails, where
on the harddrive would they be kept so I can retrieve them also. I also neeed
to get info from my address book. Thanks

Incase you need to know. I am running an HP Windows Vista and looking for
Outlook 2007.
Thanks again
Pablo

Yes, I am not on an exchange server.
I can get as far as G:\Users\"My name"\ but I cannot open the Local settings
folder. It says it is not accesible and access is denied. The folder is
transparent and has a shortcut mark in the corner.

I followed the instructions to show all hidden files etc... There are other
folders with the same issues, Application Data, cookies, Local settings, plus
5or6 other folders. all trasparent with a shortcut mark. They all also say
they contain 0 Bytes.
I am able to open some folders AppData, Desktop, pictures etc...

Any help would be great.
Thanks

Are we to assume that you are not running against Exchange Server and are an
end user with a local data file?
If so, the file you need is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where
all the mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

Not an Outlook issue. This is an operating system issue you'll need to
pursue in an OS group. Are you running as an administrator with permission
to access these files?

Pablo,
Can you search with Windows Explorer, for example, for *.pst files? If you
can, then see if you can't copy them.

Another approach, use Linux. I have a version of Knoppix on a CD with which
then I can access files without worrying about permissions.

In any case, for further assistance then, as suggested, post your problem in
an OS forum, such as, http://www.vistax64.com/ or
http://www.winvistaclub.com/

Good luck,
Karl
