Is it possible to recover a cluster on a non-clustered server for disaster
recovery?

TIA

Juan

Please elaborate on your question. What exactly are you trying to do? Replace a failed node?

For Windows Server 2003 clusters, it is possible to use ASR to recover a node. Windows 2000 is not so automated.

Kevin,

We have several clusters where I work, but in the event of a Disaster, we
may have to try to recover these servers on non-clustered systems.

Hi Juan,

You are asking if it's possible to restore a cluster node backup onto a non-clustered server and have it provide the same services to your clients?

If so, this would have to be a process laid out specifically for the apps & services etc that you are running. You will need to come up with a complete action plan in the event of a disaster and
you will have to test this before going into production. Depending on what resources you are providing, you might be able to do it. Being a very generalized statement and not knowing what
your environment entails nor the type of disaster you are referring to, I would have to recommend contacting Microsoft Consulting Services to work with you on producing and testing this
action plan.

The idea however of a cluster is that you have two or more nodes available to serve resources to your clients. If one of the nodes dies, the other node(s) should be able to continue to service
the clients while you rebuild/replace/fix the failed cluster node.
