Recovering a lost Distribution List

I have a long DL which took over 30 hours to create. I often have to make changes when I am tired. In haste, on a highlighted entry, I hit the "X" option (rather than "Remove") deleting the whole list. I recover it by going to a backup copy--often 1 day old. Is there any way to protect the list as a whole from deletion? The delete file in Outlook and the Recycle Bin in XP Pro and Norton do not seem to catch the deletions. Any suggestions
Also, how do I find answered questions. When I search for results, the answers do not appear by date or alphabetically.

Deleted Items go to your Deleted Items Folder, including DL's.
