recovered spreadsheet

I am helping someone with Excel. They somehow lost a couple of their
spreadsheets on a diskette. i was able to find them and undelete the
files using Norton Utilities. Under Windows Explorer the file size and
dates look accurate. But when we try to open them in Excel 2000 we get
an error message about can't open and they maybe read-only or the server
they are on is not available.

Obviously neither of these apply. any ideas on how to get them to open?

any help would be appreciated.

You might wish to investigate the following link.

XL 2003 has some additional stuff that might allow to open a corrupt file.

If you don't have access to XL 2003, you can send the file to me and I will
see what I can do.

My address is "khs04" and then "2004" (contiguous) followed by the "at"
symbol and then "shaw" with a period following and a "ca".

I am just trying to keep the spam bots away.

I received Ron's spreadsheet, and sent it back. I am not sure how much of
the spreadsheet was recovered, but some of it was.

like a lot of data was recovered she found data in it that she said didn't
belong in it. left it with her to see if it a tleast saves her some time
rebuilding, i think it would. gave her my opinion of only having one copy of
something she feels is very important.

Hi Ron,

All the data in the workbook came from her workbook. There was nowhere else
for it to come from. I merely opened the file using XL 2003, and as
mentioned, XL 2003 has an open and repair facility.

Anyway, I hope she found it of some benefit. It was badly corrupted, so any
data recovered is a blessing.
